Side Split: Portion of hide that covers area of
animal. More uniform than shoulder leather,
has less imperfection such as scars, open (weak)
fibers, more flexible.
Shoulder Split : Comes from shoulder and neck
of hide. Fibers tend to be coarse and less uniform
than side split, firmer, generally less flexible.
Grain Leather : Outermost layer of split that has
been tanned with the smooth surface visible. |
